Ngakma Shardröl Du-nyam Wangmo: with Nyingma bell

October 2001

Ngakma Shardröl Du-nyam Wangmo (sNgags ma shar grol du nyam dBang mo) is holding the ancient Nyingma bell she uses in drübthab practise (grub thab / sadhana). It is a nine pronged bell accompanied by a nine pronged vajra of the type which were common within the Nyingma Tradition in the first spread of Buddhism in Tibet. Such black undecorated bells are rare now – and this one was given to her by Ngak’chang Rinpoche and Khandro Déchen. The undecorated nine prong bell was the type used within the Aro Gar in Southern Tibet, and it is for this reason that they are used by the Aro gTér practitioners today.
