Phurba dance

Phurba Gar’cham

the vajra dance of the four phurba protectors

The Aro gTér tradition contains a wealth of phurba practices. This dance is called ‘The Nine Enriching Phurbas’. Five dancers represent the elements, and the other four are the phur-gön – the phurba protectors. The phurbas carried by the phur-gön have black silk sashes and these dancers dance first, last, and between each of the elemental dances.
